The Interview
Question 1 - Where were you born?
Jimmy - "I was born in Sydney, Australia."
Question 2 - What school(s) did you attend?
Jimmy - "Orange, Australia."
Question 3 - What did you do after graduating?
Jimmy - "The second school finished I headed to the ocean and haven’t looked back since. Since then I completed my BSc and went on to a Ph.D."
Question 4 - What was your first job?
Jimmy - "I worked for a documentary film crew. Started out at the bottom, carrying pelican cases and cleaning gear."
Question 5 - What do you do for a living?
Jimmy - "Now I lead expeditions around the world, from Russia to Papua New Guinea, East African to Antarctica. These all have different objectives, from research, documentary filmmaking to tourism and education. My specific skill set is landing in a country, where I don’t speak the language, have no idea where anything is, and figuring it out, typically while mainlining black coffee."
Question 6 - Do you have any big projects in the works?
Jimmy - "Right now, I’m working with Seventenths Project to bring VR from the wild places around the world into Paediatrics hospital wards. Using VR we can reduce the amount of pain medication administered to children. This does a couple of key things, it reduced the opiate loads on children and side effects that come with that but importantly it also limits the risk of withdrawal symptoms after treatment. During the treatment phase, it means that parents can still talk with their kids because they are less medicated. The best moment comes when both the kids and parents use the VR. For the first time, they can talk about something positive that isn’t related to the child’s injury or illness."
Question 7 - What do you like to do in your free time?
Jimmy - "If I’m not in some far-flung jungle or polar ocean, I’m with my daughters exploring our world closer to home. This will always be my highest calling and most challenging role."
Question 8 - How would you describe Woobies in 3 words?
Jimmy - "Every Day Carry"
Question 9 - What are your goals and aspirations?
Jimmy - "To reconnect people to the wild places on this planet, challenge them and take them to the edge of their comfort zone. That is where life is at 10 and the fun begins."
