The Interview
Question 1 - Where were you born?
Brian Sheets - I was actually born in Seoul, Republic of Korea and adopted as a baby. I was raised in Salem County, NJ.
Question 2 - What school(s) did you attend?
Brian Sheets - I attended Salem High School and several different colleges. Throughout my studies for my bachelor's, I attended AMU, Tidewater Community College, and finally Widener University.
Question 3 - What did you do after graduating?
Brian Sheets - After I graduated from High school I immediately left for boot camp. I knew I was going to be a Marine as soon as I was old enough to enlist.
Question 4 - What was your first job?
Brian Sheets - My first REAL job was selling parts at Advance Auto Parts.
Question 5 - What do you do for a living?
Brian Sheets - After I was medically retired from the Marine Corps I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. Ultimately I went back to school to finish my degree in Social Work because I founded and am currently running a non-profit for veterans and first responders, Gallant Heart. This led me to do some work with another local non-profit, the People for People Foundation, which does many things; but mainly focuses on low-to-moderate income housing with a veteran preference as well as providing social services for those residents.
I also worked with my business partner to open a tattoo shop in Bear, Delaware; Malarkey Tattoo.
I am now in the process of expanding the family Game Preserve business.
Question 6 - What inspired you to pursue your job?
Brian Sheets - I think it’s fair to say that very few people follow the “A to B” line when pursuing what they believe will be their career. I have been all over the map, but ultimately I was inspired by the guys around me to start Gallant Heart. I see the game preserve as a vehicle for Gallant Heart where I can host the organization and events and make a living to feed my family.
Question 7 - How would you describe Woobies in 3 words?
Brian Sheets - Veteran operated success.
Question 8 - What are some of your achievements?
Brian Sheets - I think my biggest accomplishments are surviving the transition out of the Marine Corps and being here for, supporting, and raising my family.
Question 9 - What are your goals and aspirations?
Brian Sheets - Next on my list are to successfully expand our small family business to a significantly larger level and go to grad school for my MBA. With my Bachelors of Social Work and MBA, I believe I will have maximized the tools needed to run successful businesses and a very successful nonprofit organization.
Question 10 - Is there anything else you would like to say to our veteran community and customers?
Brian Sheets - DBAP! Don’t Be A P***Y! That means so many different things. Everybody on the face of the earth needs help at some point… don’t be too scared to ask for help! The biggest, strongest, and fastest of us all will need you to return the favor.
I will also reference our tagline for Gallant Heart, “Be Inspired, Empower Change”. Allow yourself to be inspired by your service, the service of others, and those around you to be the best version of yourself you can be and allow yourself to be a medium for empowering those around you to grow and change for the better! If we do not inspire and support each other, we cannot possibly expect someone else to be THAT for us.
To Woobies customers, rest easy knowing you are not only getting great gear, but that the men you are supporting with your purchase are the real deal and will be around to support you.
